For the past eight weeks, twice a week, these Malvern women participated in the LIFT program, an exercise program for seniors, presented and led by Clare Lillard on behalf of a research program sponsored by Virginia Tech University.
The first step was to evaluate, through a series of activities, the fitness level of each participant.
Then, for eight weeks, the women worked through a program consisting of a warm-up, weight lifting, stretching, and balance improving exercises, and a cool down. On Thursdays, the group walked a mile together as their group goal.
The last step was to reevaluate the progress made by each individual and the group as a whole. The results showed that progress was made by various members of the group in all three areas, strength, flexibility and balance. They also showed that group dynamics does improve attendance among the members.
Thursday, May 9th, was graduation day. Each participant was presented with a water bottle inscribed with the words, “I ROCked LIFT”. Now for a well earned rest for the Rowdy Overcomers!
